These pieces from the Under Another Sun series draw inspiration from contemporary murals and ancient frescoes, in particular those I studied in Jaipur, India during my Artist Residency there in early 2026, questioning the ways in which we bring the beauty of nature into our urban environments.

This piece is imagined from the many plants which grow through concrete and stone in city environments which should be too harsh for them, somehow push through and bring beauty and colour to an urban space. It draws inspiration from the late afternoon sun that creates a sense of magic and warmth to everything it touches, in a golden glow.

I painted the plant with layers of oils to build a surface that convey a velvety, smooth feel against a textured background, with the golden light of the sun creating the depth and texture on the delicate and sheer white petals of the tulip.

The piece is finished with a natural wood frame to elevate the concept of a fresco to a piece of art.
