This new series of works signifies an exciting evolution of my artistic style, one that builds upon an experimental few months following my artist residency in Jaipur, India at the start of 2026.
During my time in the pink city, I found myself drawn to the hand painted murals adorning the city’s walls, trucks and shop fronts, as well as the fading frescoes of Amer Fort. The frescoes revealed a time where nature was valued so highly that it was incorporated intricately into almost every decorative element of Jaipur’s cityscape. However, years of pollution and neglect have caused them to fade, for the walls to crumble and for plant life to force their way through the cracks. What once existed to soften the harshness of civilization was now being overpowered and forgotten by it, while simultaneously being reclaimed by the very thing it was created in the image of.
Drawing from this inspiration, along with the layered textures of stone, earth and plant life, under the distinctive indian sun, refracted by the smoggy haze that coated the skyline; I explored different methods of paint application and mark making, and discovered new approaches to colour, light and composition that I continue to incorporate into my practice.
