One of my experimental pieces from my Jaipur Residency, After the Amer Fort is inspired by the faded frescoes on the walls of the Amer Fort. The once elaborate and beautiful images are now so faded by years of neglect and environmental decay that they are almost lost; a metaphor for the nature that is being irreparably damaged by the climate crisis. This piece explores the textures and colours of the multi-sensory impacts of both the city of Jaipur and the expansive nature surrounding my studio at The Farm, drawing influences from the old frescoes at historical landmarks, from traditional block printing and carving techniques that are so deeply rooted in the community, using knives to carve into layers of paint to create an intaglio effect, depicting local plantlife against a textured backdrop.
