After Frescoes of the Ajmer Gate, 2026

One of my experimental pieces from my Jaipur Residency, After the Frescoes of the Ajmer Gate is inspired by the decorative painted frescoes of the instantly recognisable Ajmer Gate in the Jaipur Old City.

The pink walls are decorated not only in the artistic murals, but also years of natural wear and air pollution which have added layers of dereliction to the buildings. Trees and plants grow through the city regardless, as part of the ecosystem that surrounds them.

This piece explores the textures and colours of the multi-sensory impacts of both the city of Jaipur and the expansive nature surrounding my studio at The Farm, drawing influences from the old frescoes at historical landmarks, from traditional block printing and carving techniques that are so deeply rooted in the community.
