BIGGER THAN US / PEONIES

2019-2022

These paintings are part of the BIGGER THAN US series which explores the human ego in relation to nature.

The Peonies Duo explores the preoccupation with the dichotomy of sexual and puritanical demands placed on women and femmes in society, and our preoccupation with assigning concepts of good and evil to all living organism. The peonies represent the Madonna/Whore complex, which demonstrates the ease at which we pass judgement based on learned associations with visual stimulus, and the ways humankind so often sexualises what is in front of us.
